Listen to Spanish music, watch series or films with subtitles, and follow Spanish-speaking influencers to hear authentic language use. Also, I could give you some advice if you want to listen to an specific style like rock, indie or even flamenco and reggaetón! 😉 Some people say that I have a great taste in films, so ask me and I’ll be very happy to recommend you anything.
2 Practice Daily Conversations 🗣️
Speak with native Spanish speakers or join language exchange programs to build confidence and fluency. When I wanted to improve my English, I used apps like Meetup or looked for nearby events on Facebook about English-Spanish language exchanges. Not only did I practice, but I also made many friends with whom I still have a special relationship!
3 Set Realistic Goals 🎯
Focus on achievable milestones, like learning 5 new words a day or mastering common phrases for specific scenarios. Be very patient with yourself; learning a new language is not easy, especially at the beginning. So, be kind to yourself, love yourself, and accept that you can’t learn everything all at once! Little by little, with lots of patience and practice, you will achieve the level you aim for.
4 Use Language Learning Apps 📱
Apps like Duolingo, Babbel, or Memrise make learning fun and interactive. Using one of these apps is quite a personal choice. Honestly, if you like them, I’d recommend them, because repetition will always be the key to remembering words! If you find memorising vocabulary boring, they’re a good option. As for grammar, in my opinion, they don’t explain it enough and don’t use very realistic sentences. But for the vocabulary they aren’t bad at all!
5 Flashcards for Vocabulary 🔤
Create flashcards to review new words, focusing on those you encounter most frequently. Flashcards are something I absolutely love because they allow me to memorise in a fun way! You can find them online to download and print, or you can make them yourself if you’re a crafty person like me!
6 Keep a Spanish Journal 📓
When learning a language, it’s super important to write and keep all our learning notes. It’s proven that when we write on paper, our brain creates more connections than when we type online. As a result, we remember better when we use our hands! Write daily entries, even if they’re short.
7 Learn Grammar Gradually 🧩
Don’t get overwhelmed by rules. Start with basics like verb conjugations and sentence order. Many students ask me questions that are too advanced for their level. It’s normal to feel curious and want to learn to say things quickly! But especially with grammar, you need to take it slowly. Once we’ve learned something really well, we can move on to the next thing!
8 Listen and Repeat 🦻🔁
Mimic native speakers by repeating phrases to perfect your pronunciation and rhythm. It’s the best advice, not just for pronunciation but also for fluency, and especially for using the most common phrases native speakers use. Often, many students take online courses or learn in formal schools, and when they face conversations with native speakers, they feel lost! That’s why it’s so important to listen and repeat 🙂
9 Surround Yourself with Spanish 🌍
Another great tip that can’t be missing from the list is to fill your house with Post-its labelling everything in Spanish. It’s one of the best tactics to learn the vocabulary of objects around the house. Also, setting your phone or computer to Spanish will help you a lot with memorising vocabulary. And let’s be honest, it’s quite intuitive and similar, so you won’t have any trouble!
